Background
The magazine was formed from the Square Writers’ Circle, which met at
Chris Brooke’s house on
Adamsdown Square,
Cardiff.
Chris has been part of the Cardiff literary scene for many years,
including at one time jointly running the highly successful Sampler poetry
nights. He has quite recently had his first book of poetry “& The Concept
of Zero” published by Cinnamon. Other former members of the group, such as
Clare Potter and Rachel Tresize, have also gone on to publishing success.
For some time, the idea of starting a magazine to allow
group members to have their work read, was discussed.
Finally, early in 2008, the first issue, which included
contributions by 5 members of the group, plus some others, was released.
With more time on his hands than most, Nick Fisk took on the role of
editor, as well as organiser, salesman, etc. The magazine now receives
some funding from the Welsh Books council, and is now into its eighth issue.
